How to get a life insurance license in Georgia.
The 2026 step-by-step guide: the 8-hour pre-licensing course, the state exam, fingerprints, fees and timeline, plus what to do after you’re licensed.
Georgia Life license at a glance.
You need a resident Life agent license from the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner (OCI): a short course, one state exam, fingerprints and an online application.
7 steps to getting licensed.
Choose your license lines
A Georgia Life license covers life insurance and fixed annuities. Many agents also add Accident & Sickness. The exams can be taken separately or combined.
Complete the pre-licensing course
Take the 8-hour Life pre-licensing course from an OCI-approved provider and keep your completion certificate. Accident & Sickness requires its own 8-hour course. The course must be completed within 12 months before you pass the exam.
Study and schedule with Pearson VUE
Book online or by phone. Test at a center or through online proctoring where available. The Life exam is 2 hours; the combined Life and Accident & Sickness exam is 2.5 hours.
Pass the state exam
The passing score is 70%. After a failed attempt, wait 24 hours before rescheduling and 14 days between early attempts; after a third attempt, the wait is 60 days.
Get fingerprinted
New resident applicants complete an electronic background check through IdentoGO using service code 2TGJ6B. The applicant pays the fee.
Apply online through Sircon
Upload a completed Citizenship Affidavit and a copy of an acceptable ID, then pay the $100 license fee and $20 processing fee.
Get contracted and appointed
A license lets you sell, but you still need carrier contracts and appointments. The agency you join typically handles contracting, training and support.
