Georgia Life Insurance Continuing Education: What Agents Need to Know

October 29, 2026•2 min read

Getting your Georgia life insurance license is just the beginning. To keep it active, you need to complete continuing education (CE) on time, every renewal period. Miss it, and you could face late fees, a lapsed license or, worst of all, a stretch where you can't legally sell.

Here's what Georgia life insurance agents need to know about CE, and how to stay ahead of it.

Georgia CE requirements at a glance

  • 24 hours of CE every two years for life and health producers

  • Including 3 hours of ethics

  • Annuity Best Interest training: agents licensed after August 1, 2023 who sell annuities also need a one-time 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course

Requirements can change, so always confirm the current rules with the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

How to check your CE status

You can view your CE transcript and compliance date through the state's licensing system (Georgia uses Sircon for producer licensing). Check it at least once a year so there are no surprises near your deadline.

Where to take CE courses

  • Use approved providers only. Courses must be approved for Georgia credit.

  • Online self-study is the most flexible option for busy agents.

  • Classroom or webinar courses are great if you learn better live.

  • Carrier product training is usually separate from state CE, but some carriers require it before you can sell certain products.

Tips to stay compliant without the stress

  1. Don't wait until the last month. Spread your hours across the two years.

  2. Pick topics that help your business, like annuities, retirement planning, long-term care or ethics.

  3. Keep your certificates in one folder in case you need to prove completion.

  4. Confirm credits posted to your transcript after each course.

  5. Set calendar reminders six months and three months before your compliance date.

What if you're licensed in other states?

If Georgia is your home (resident) state, completing Georgia's CE usually satisfies CE for non-resident licenses in many states, but rules vary. Some states have their own specific course requirements. Check each state where you hold a license.

CE vs. real training

CE keeps your license active. It doesn't teach you how to run appointments, handle objections or build a book of business. Most successful agents treat CE as the minimum and invest in ongoing sales and product training on top of it.
